My MX5000DT is up for its 50 hour service. I have no way of getting this big of a tractor to the dealership and want to do the service myself. Is this something that the rest of you recomend doing yourself? I never saw my dad take any of our tractors anywhere when they needed to be serviced.

One more question while I am at it What kind of oil should I use for the engine?

Thanks

Many dealers offer mobile service on Tractors, not that you won't pay a little more than if you could trialer it for free.

I did my own 50 hour service, though. The Kubota Super UDT is the only way to go on the hydraulic fluid. Used Kubota Hydraulic filters. For the engine I used Mobil One Synthetic and Purolator oil filter. Lots of varying views and preferences on filters and oils.

Look at your owner's manual and see if you are comfortable with what needs to be done. The only item I have used dealer for on any service time was checking valve adjustment.

I do use Kubota's filters for one big reason, no one else has a listing here on the tractors I have. I think it is Shell that now has a diesel synthetic oil but could be wrong on the brand but at Tractor Supply the price was reasonable in the gallon size. I went with the synthetic with my last change and the brand is just not locked in but right sure it is Shell Rotella. Not sure that Mobile One (which I do use in gas engines) is rated for the diesel.

Now, get the containers for the old oil, rags and get oilly. kt ....

Pitt MD; I'm a firm believer in following the owners manual to the letter. Kubota tractor=Kubota oil's and fluids, Deere tractor=Deere oil's and Deere fluids. We had quite a discussion on correct application of non Kubota/Deere/any tractor brand branded filters for their own tractors just a few weeks ago here, I don't remember what the title of the thread was, maybe another member does. I have my regular service done by the dealer now because of a handicap condition that keeps me out from under anything, but always did my own before. There is no better therapy than greasy hands. Enjoy your day. Frank. ....

And when you do it yourself, you learn a whole lot about your machine and discover things not mentiond in your owners manual. Tackle one job at a time, so that you don't forget to replace fluids and drain plugs. The first fluid change will have really tight filters, nuts and seals to loosen, I'm not sure what they do at the factory but everything seems to exceed normal torque settings. ....
